Cannon
Cannons are great for point defense. Upgrade cannons to increase their firepower, but beware that your defensive turrets cannot shoot while being upgraded!
Cannons are a single-target defense building capable of targeting only ground troops.
Unlocked on Town Hall 2, it's one of the original defenses from the game, introduced in 2012.
Cannon Explained
Cannon is a single-target, high damage defense capable of targeting only ground troops.
They are strong defenses against Giants and Barbarians on lower Town Hall levels. As you upgrade your Town Hall and unlock better troops, this defense loses importance, but it still has moderate damage even on Town Hall 13, causing great damage to Heroes.
Gear Up: Burst Mode
The Cannon is one of the three defenses that can be "geared up", among with the Archer Tower and Mortar. Gear Up Defenses adds an extra configuration option to the defense.
Unlocked from level 7, you must have a Double Cannon level 4 on your Builder Base. This upgrade adds the option of transforming it on a "double cannon", doubling the damage but reducing the range.
It is currently possible to "Gear Up" only one Cannon.
Range
Cannons have a range of 9 tiles and don't have any dead-zone around.
If you choose to "Gear Up" this defense, the range is decreased to 7 tiles in exchange of higher damage.
Upgrading Cannons
Upgrading the Cannon improves its damage and hit points.
Starting on level 7 you can "Gear Up" one Cannon.
Tips & Tricks
On lower levels they are very important defenses, being the best defense against strong ground troops until you unlock X-Bows on Town Hall 9.
Placing Cannons close together can be a good idea on higher Town Hall levels. Even though they lose importance as you progress on the game, having 2 or 3 Cannons close can cause a significant amount of damage on Heroes, enough to give the Queen Walk some trouble.
Cannons are capable of targeting only ground troops, to they can be easily destroyed by air troops such as Minions, Balloons and Dragons.
